In my electronics tutorials, I often use a 9V battery to power the circuits. While it’s simple and easily accessible, it’s not the most efficient option. The battery tends to drain over time, resulting in a voltage lower than the advertised 9V.
To overcome this issue and enhance the performance of your circuits, I recommend using a Breadboard Power Supply Module. This module allows you to input power from various sources, including a battery, a 12V adapter, or any other compatible source. It then provides a stable 5V or 3.3V output, depending on your circuit’s requirements. This is particularly useful when working with Arduino, as most Arduino circuits work with these voltage levels.
Among the different options available, I want to introduce you to a specific power supply module that is part of the Elegoo kit I highly recommend. However, you can find similar modules under the name “Arduino power supply” on platforms like Amazon.
This specific power supply module accepts an input voltage ranging from 6.5V to 9V DC and can deliver a maximum output current of 700mA.
Connecting the module to the breadboard is straightforward. You simply attach it directly as shown below:
Once connected, you can choose the voltage level you want to apply to the power lines on each side of the module independently. In the example shown, a 5V output is selected:
You can also opt for a 3.3V output by adjusting the position of the jumpers:
To turn off the power supply module, simply position the jumpers in the middle:
Moreover, the module features a barrel jack input that allows you to connect it to a 12V to 220V adapter:
To activate the module, press the gray button. An LED indicator will light up, confirming its operation:
Please note that the USB port present on the module is not intended to power the power supply module itself. Instead, it can be used to power USB devices when necessary, such as an Arduino.
In addition to the main power lines, there are also extra output pins on top of the module that provide GND, 5V, and 3.3V, in case you require them for your project:
Give your electronics projects a reliable power source with the Breadboard Power Supply Module. Its versatility and stability make it an essential component for smooth operation and accurate results.
