In this tutorial, we will walk you through the process of creating a user with programmatic access in AWS using the IAM (Identity and Access Management) panel. By following these steps, you will be able to set up a user and obtain the necessary access credentials for your project.

If you don’t have an AWS account yet, you can create one here.

Once you have set up an account and logged in to AWS, follow these steps:

  1. Click on your name at the top of the screen, then select “My Security Credentials”.

    My Security Credentials

  2. On the sidebar, click on “Users”, then select “Add user”. Make sure to enable “Programmatic access” for the user.

  3. Proceed to the next screen by clicking the appropriate button at the bottom (“Next: Permissions”).

  4. Click on “Attach existing policies directly”.

    Attach Existing Policies

  5. In this example, we will create a user with access to upload files to Amazon S3. To find the S3 policies, type “S3” in the filter.

    Filter S3 Policies

  6. Select the “AmazonS3FullAccess” permission.

    Select S3 Permission

  7. Once the user is created, you will be provided with an access key ID and secret access key.

Copy these credentials to your .env file or the appropriate environment variables in your project.

That’s it! You have successfully created an IAM user in AWS with programmatic access. Use these credentials to interact with AWS services programmatically within your project.
