How to install SQLite on macOS

In this tutorial, I want to explain what you need to do to install SQLite.

I am a Mac user and do not have a Windows computer, so I cannot write instructions for Windows. Google "How to install sqlite on Windows" for specific instructions. The same is true for Linux.

On macOS, you don't need to do anything to install sqlite. It is pre-installed in all modern versions of macOS.

All you need to do is open a terminal and run

sqlite3

command.

Press ctrl-C twice to exit the SQLite executable file.

This is so cool!

My macOS with Mojave comes with SQLite 3.24, and the latest version (at the time of writing) is SQLite 3.30. You can use Homebrew to upgrade SQLite, but for the sake of simplicity, I will not introduce it.

TablePlus is an excellent software that we can use to interact with SQLite databases. It comes with a free trial version, which is very suitable for our use, because it is not based on time, but limits the number of concurrent connections you can establish with the database.

Download fromhttps://tableplus.com. I know there are macOS, Windows and Linux versions.

You create a new connection, select SQLite:

You choose a name, and then type the database path. I choosetest.db, inside/Users/flaviocopes/folder:

SQLite is very cool because the database is contained in a file and you can place it almost anywhere. This is completely different from PostgreSQL, MySQL and other large DBMSs.

urgentConnect, The connection is successfully established:

I can see the files created in this folder, the size is zero KB:

That's it.

I will make more tutorials on how to use this SQLite database soon.
