How I Decided to Create a New Projects Management App

I have developed numerous applications in the past few years, ranging from iOS to Mac to Web applications. Some of them had the potential to become bigger than expected, but most ended up being abandoned. This is because software has an expiration date and needs continuous updates to keep up with evolving operating systems.

In recent years, I have shifted my focus towards training developers to create web applications, which has brought me immense satisfaction. Teaching coding and organizing my JavaScript Full-Stack Bootcamp have become my main areas of interest for the present and foreseeable future.

However, I recently found myself working on multiple projects simultaneously and realized the need for a reliable project management app. I wanted a solution that could help me keep track of tasks, milestones, and progress across all my projects at once. Although there are plenty of project management tools available, most of them are designed for teams and lack the simplicity and personalization I was looking for.

After conducting thorough research and seeking input from others, I couldn’t find an ideal solution. This led me to delve into creating my own project management application. I began sketching ideas on paper and later used Balsamiq Wireframes to design some preliminary screens. The goal was to create a user-friendly and visually appealing app that would address my specific needs.

Unlike my previous attempts at app development, where the focus was on creating a full-time income-generating business, this time my primary aim was to craft a useful and beautiful piece of software. Money was not a motivating factor, but rather the sheer enjoyment of creating a tool that I would personally use and find essential.

While the possibility of releasing the app to the public remains open, my main focus is on building an app that perfectly aligns with my own vision and requirements. If others find it compelling and useful, that would be an added bonus.

For me, this application is essential, something that would provide a comprehensive overview of all my projects, allowing me to prioritize tasks, track progress, and gain insights into my work. It would serve as a central hub for managing projects, both active and on hold, as well as a reference for completed or canceled projects. Additionally, it would help me make informed decisions about which projects to tackle each day.

The app would also serve as a record of my progress, helping me remember and appreciate the work I have accomplished. With a poor memory, having a tool that can reflect my past achievements is truly valuable.

To ascertain whether this project is worth pursuing, I have two criteria: 1) genuine desire and commitment to see it through, and 2) willingness to invest in its continuous development and maintenance for years to come.

As of now, the project is underway, and I am excited to see where it leads me.

Update 2023: The project has been abandoned 😄
